Song for a Whale

By Lynne Kelly

Trish is a 12-year old tech wiz-kid who can fix anything from old computers to broken radios. She’s also the only deaf person in her school and communicates a little differently than everyone else and, sometimes, other people treat her like she’s not very smart. When Trish learns about Blue55, a whale who has trouble communicating with other whales, she has an idea to invent a way to “sing” back to him! Blue55 is 3,000 miles away—how can she play her song for him?

While we read together and independently, we will learn new vocabulary and practice grade-appropriate grammar and literary skills. We will also incorporate other subjects that relate to our reading:

  • American Sign Language
  • Sound Waves & The Invention of the Radio
  • Whales

Join us for hands-on S.T.E.M., art, handwork and multi-media fun while reading this uplifting story!
